Something to keep in mind if you've been running a jack-of-all-trades instead of focusing is that DM does have a number of fairly high skill checks. HH has some, but generally fewer and lower-level and with more alternatives (e.g. Fallout new vegas suggested quest order code. Repair an item with a skill check, or gather some parts if you don't meet the skill requirements).

So I just upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday. And today was the first time since upgrading that I was able to spend some time working with it and seeing if everything was ok. So, first thing I noticed is, audio playback is bugged, or broken. The first thing I notice, is that if I play a video file like a .avi, the sound becomes all muted except for the bass. It sounds like someone next door is playing really loud music and all I can hear is the bass. If I open Chrome and go to youtube, all videos sound weird. The music sounds too loud, while any voices or dialogue sounds muted and clipped to the point where I can understand it. If I activate my Netflix app, the same thing happens. All I get is muted, bass heavy audio and no dialogue. This also happens when I run any game I have installed. All the audio sounds messed up. The music and sound effects are too loud, and the dialogue and voices are too soft. Wow best warrior addons s for pvp. I have a Creative Labs Soundblaster Z PCIE soundcard and a 2.1 speaker setup. The speakers are connected via a standard audio plug, I am not sure of the size, but it's the same size as a headphone plug like you would plug into your phone or something. I also have a HDMI cable running to my HDTV. If I switch the audio source to the HDMI cable that is connected to my hdtv, everything sounds perfect. When I go back to the 2.1 speakers on my PC, the sound is messed up again.
I have read the tips and tricks going around on reddit. Changing the play back khz to a lower freq doesn't do anything. It almost sounds like my PC thinks I have a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker setup when I don't. I have told windows that I am running a 2.1 speaker setup, so I am not sure what is going on. Any thoughts? Do you need additional info from me?

Original Title: Sound Issue with Asus G75 Laptop - Possibly Update Related.
Basically, attempting to run Windows 10 Technical Preview on an Asus G75 VX Laptop. Sound is always distorted. Tried a few of the obvious things to fix it, no luck, currently muted the whole computer. Everything worked fine with Windows 8.1. Windows 10 was a fresh install to a new SSD, so didn't bring drivers or files with me.
As soon as Windows was installed, i received a notification, the alert-tone for which was VERY distorted. Thought updating would help. Windows failed on ALL driver updates (including HD audio, gpu, bluetooth, wifi, and others) and a few OS updates except for its first, windows defender. Restarted as instructed, and re-tried updating. This time, all software updates for OS worked fine, and a driver update for my wlan network adapter (qualcomm atheros) was successful, but no other drivers or updates except for OS updates have been available to download. No details on why they failed either. Just a friendly blue link, to another friendly blue link, which eventually led me here. I have no idea what to do - Maybe try rolling back to an older driver?
EDIT: Uninstalled Sound driver from Device Manager, rebooted as instructed, PC boots, sound is clear, but only coming from one source. PC has simple 2.1 sound setup. 2 Speakers on top and a sub underneath, and I can now only select sound to be directed to one source in my playback devices list; that is, I have TWO sources listed in Playback Devices with the name 'Speakers', and selecting one sends sound just to the sub, and the other sends sound just to the other two 'tweeters' on top of the computer. Any way to select them both, or rectify this?

EDIT 2 --> Back to original situation - after uninstalling, tried installing newest drivers available from Asus support, and the new driver 'combines' both speaker sets into 1, BUT the distortion is back. I've determined (from turning down the internal sub levels on the speaker settings) that the source of distortion is from the sub, and is actually not reactive to sound, but instead just a constant static buzz whilst sound is playing. Currently coping by having sub turned right down, but I'd really like it all working....
I upgraded to a new desktop in April of this year. Up until a month or so ago, it had ZERO issues. But at some point (I'm assuming after a Windows update), I started experiencing crackling, popping, and cutting in and out of my audio. I went to the ol' Google machine and found this was DPC Latency. So I downloaded LatencyMon and it tells me I have DPC Latency of course.
I've scoured the web, and though it seems to be a pretty big problem with Windows 10, there doesn't seem to be any real fix. I've flashed my BIOS to the latest available for the Z270i motherboard from MSI (listed as 08/14/17 -- and now strangely no longer showing on the support page). I've updated any drivers related to audio devices. I've contact MSI and their support was no help (they told me to download another application -- Nahimic), and really am just annoyed at this point. The only thing I have not yet done is a Windows reset, which based on what I've read, doesn't usually fix the issue.
Are there any surefire methods to resolve DPC Latency? Thank you for your help in advance.

Alvin Nyau - Updated on If your Windows 10 suddenly has no sound, particularly after updating your Windows to the recent Windows 10 October Update version 1809, you’re certainly not alone here. Here’s why it’s happening and how you can fix it. If you’re having the issue not because of Windows Update, this guide can also be used to fix your Windows 10 no sound problem.
The new Windows 10 October update is known to be causing lots and lots of bugs which include the audio settings since its release. Not just this update, there were many cases before which the previous updates were causing Windows to lost its audio driver or messed up the playback device selection. You wouldn’t need to try all the solutions below, but you can work your way down until you find the one that works for you.
First and foremost, make sure that you didn’t just mute or lowered the volume of your speaker or headphone. Click on the sound icon from the taskbar to make sure the volume control is at an audible level. If it is but still no sound in Windows 10 or in whatever app you run, try the solutions below.
Select the correct Playback device in Sound settings
Before we go and touch the driver section, you should check whether your audio device’s driver is actually working properly but just wrongly selected by Windows 10 after the update.
- Click on the speaker icon from the Taskbar.
- Select Sound.
- Go to Playback tab.
- If there are multiple playback devices shown, right click your primary audio device and then select Enable. If there is an existing enabled device, try to disable it if it’s not your primary device.
- If you have multiple devices enabled, right-click the correct one and select Set as default device.
All audio playback devices connected to your computer will be listed in the Playback tab, including those in your monitor, graphic card, etc. You just have to know which is the correct one that represent your speaker or headphone. If you don’t know, try to enable them one by one until the sound works.
If the playback devices tab shows No audio device is installed, go to the next solution.
Run the Windows 10 Troubleshooter for Playing Audio
The Windows 10 troubleshooter tool is there to help diagnose and fix your windows problem automatically. Although it doesn’t always fix the problem, but we should always run the troubleshooter first before we go for the more advanced solution. To run the troubleshooter for Playing audio:
- Go to Start Menu.
- Search for Troubleshoot. Open it.
- Under Get up and running, select Playing Audio.
- Then, click on the Run the troubleshooter button.
- The process may take some time.
When the troubleshooting is completed, restart your computer. Play some musics on YouTube and see if the sound works correctly. If there is still no sound in Windows 10, proceed to the next solution.
Update driver to fix no sound issue in Windows 10
Windows 10 might have lost or corrupted your audio driver during the update. You will have to reinstall the driver to make it works. If you happen to have a audio driver CD, use it instead. If you don’t, follow guide below to update your audio driver.
- Go to Start menu. Search for device manager and open it.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right click your audio device and then select Update driver.
- Select update automatically to allow Windows to automatically find and install the correct audio driver for your device.
- If it can’t find a suitable driver, you will need manually install the driver by selecting it based on its model (Usually we will install the Realtek High Definition audio). Check the post here and scroll to the bottom for detailed instruction on how to do it.
We hope that these solutions will help you fix the no sound issue in Windows 10. If they don’t and you have a more specific problem, you can leave a comment below or contact us to tell us your problem. We will try to help.
